THERE'E NO DEARTH OF KINDNESS.

'l'here's no dea rth of kindn ess
In this world of ours;
Only in our blindn ess
'l'ake we thorn s for flow ern .
\V e ar e ev e r lea l'llin g
Of th e hi gh e r life,
An<l are only yearning
]~or th e e n1l of str ife.

As the wilcl ro se hlow elh
And the st r eam flow s free;
Kindness freely flow et h
Out from you ancl 111 e.
Dut we ot't i111agin e
That we are alone,
\Vhil e th e love arou111l us
1-)igh as Il Pa v' n ha s grnwn.

Th e r e's 110 1learlh of l<incln ess
111 thi s worltl of oms;
Only in 0111· blindn ess
Tak e w e thorn s for f101n,1·s !
Thi s is Gocl's hest g:·, Ing,
l~alling fro111 above!
Life w e re not worth livin g,
\V e r e it not for Lov e.
-Gerald i\la sse~·0 GOD OF EARTH AND AL TAR

('l'o th e mu s ic of "We bb")
0 God of earth and altar

Bow down and h ear our cry,
Our earthly rulers falter,
Our peo ple drift and di e ;
The walls of gold entomb us,
'!'be swords of scorn divid e,
Take not 'l'hy thunder from us,
But take away our pride.

From all that te rror teaches,
From li es of tongue and p e1),
From all the easy speeches
'!'hat comfort cruel m e n,
From sale and profanation
Of honor and the sword,
From sl eep and from damnation,
Delil'er us, good Lord.

Tie in a living teth e r
'!'h e pries t and prince and thrall,
Bind all our Ii ves togeth e r,
Smite us and save us all;
In ire and exultation
Aflame with faith, and fr ee,
Lift up a living nation ,
A sin1;le sword to Th ee.
-G. K. Chesterton.
ONWARD, BROTHERS!

Onward, broth e r s , mar ch s till onward,
Side by s id e and hand in hand;
vVe are bound for man' s tru e kin gdom,
\Ve are an in c r easin g band .
'l'ho' the way seems often doub tf ul,
Hard the toil whi ch w e e ndure ,
'l'ho' at lim es our courage falters,
Ye t th e 1n·omised Janel is s ur e.

Ol<len sages sa w it dimly,
And th e ir joy to madn ess wrought;
Li'ving 111 e n hav e gaze d upon it,
Standing on th e hill s of thought.
All th e pa st has <lon e ancl s uffe r ed,
All th e daring and th e strife,
All ha s he lp'tl to 111011lcl th e future,
l\lak e 111an ma ste r of hi s life.

Still brave deeds anti kind are n ee de d,
Noble tho'ts a nd feelings fair;
Ye, too , mu st be s trong an1l s uffe r ,
Ye, too, hav e to do and dare.
Onward, !Jroth ers; mar c h s till onwanl ,
March still onward hand in hand;
Till ye see at la st l\lan 's kin gdom ,
Till ye reach th e Promise<! Land.

January 19.-Dn. YA~IEI K1N of China
talks to us on" 71/te Awakening of Clti11a,"
with particular refere11ce, we may assume, to the
extraorclin .;ry !Noman-:Movement that is now
so strong there. Though the first woman of
her race to receive the degree of :M. D. in this
country Dr. Kin has never lost her close touch
and her deep sympathy with her sisrers in the
East. It is very piquant to see her in her
native costume tali, ing in perfect English of
their life and their problems. She is, indeed,·
a fount of first-hand information concerning
~very phase of life in this new Republic of

January 26. - JosEPH FELS, the ardent
Single Taxer, comes to us again, his topic
this ti111e being "Just Ta.\'ation the I.lope of
tl1e 1-Vorld." ivlr. Fels is fresh from England
where a considerable measure of land reforms
has already been instituted and he will doubtless have a good deal to say about Lloyd George
and his policies. But. he is interesting whatever he sayf; you who have heard him before
very well know that.
