Suffolk University Law School's Indigenous Peoples Rights Clinic, collected primary sources related to the 1980 enactment of the Maine Indian Claims Settlement Act. The documents, pulled from a variety archives, shed light on the federal law which settled the land claims brought forth by two tribes located in Maine in the 1970s.

This project was sponsored by the Maine Indian Tribal-State Commission. Technical support was provided by the Moakley Archive and Institute. The focus of the research was on the the April, 1980 to September, 1980 period, with particular attention regarding the formulation of and references to the following sections and topics:
• Section 1723 focusing on the treaties;
• Sustenance and protected sustenance practices; • Definition of internal tribal matters;
• Section 1725(h) of MICSA; and
• Section 1735(b) of MICSA.
